Puskás Award display is great success in China

29 Aug. 2018.

The Hungarian main consulate, as the local representative of the V4 group organised a family football day in Shanghai on Saturday. Perhaps the most popular feature of the event was the exhibition of the FIFA Puskás Award, of which people young and old, locals and tourists, took photographs from morning until evening.

The rapidly-developing Chinese economy and the European football are becoming more and more connected and the traditional football countries of the Visegrad Four aided this burgeoning of ties with their participation in this event. Diplomats and business people and representatives of local and international businesses came together to participate in a small-pitch football tournament and family day last Saturday in Shanghai. Specifically, this V4 Football Cup was held at the local training centre of the Olympique Lyon boys' team with the most successful team from Central and Easter Europe being the Czech Consulate team which finished with the bronze medal behind the team of Chinese diplomates and the local business side.

Everyone watching on from the benches socialised with each other in a friendly way, th Polish and Hungarian delegations particularly with their rendition of a song titled "Polak, wegier, dwa bratanki"! Amongst the numerous stands and exhibitions in one of the foremost cities of table-tennis-loving China was the Hungarian one which featured the understandably popular teqball sports table.

However, possibly the biggest success was display of the FIFA Puskás Award, the first time the trophy has ever been exhibited in China. People young and old, locals and tourists, took photographs of the award from morning until evening, the presence of which highlights the ever-growing popularity of football locally.

The local football club, Shanghai SIPG, competes in the Chinese Super League and has as its main star Oscar of Brazil and he also contributed to the success of this V4 Football Day by auctioning a signed shirt which was purchased for 10,000 Chinese jüan (almost half a million Hungarian forints or over 1,500 Euros), the proceeds of which will go to a Chinese hospital, Nemzeti Sport newspaper understands, based on information from Szilárd Bolla on behalf of the Hungarian Consulate, the event's creator and main organiser.
