05 May. 2018.

April 22nd marked three months since former England international captain and defender Jimmy Armfield, one of the special guests at the Manchester launch of the Puskás biography in 2015, passed away at the age of 82.

Jimmy Armfield played 627 times for Blackpool, his only professional club, over 17 years. As a right-sided defender he played 43 times for the England national team between 1959 and 1966 and was a member of England's World Cup-winning squad in the year of his last appearance.

Following his retirement he was briefly a successful manager, coaching Bolton Wanderers for a time before guiding Leeds United to the 1975 European Cup final, shortly after which he changed career and  became an extremely respected pundit and media summariser with the BBC for whom he worked for over 30 years. In 2006 he was inducted into the Blackpool Hall of Fame and in 2009 he was awarded the CBE by Queen Elizabeth II. A stand in Blackpool's stadium Bloomfield Road is named after him and there is a statue of him outside. He passed away on 22nd January 2018.
England's world champion right-back knew Ferenc Puskás well and said of him at the 2015 Manchester launch of the Puskás biography: "He was Hungary's hero but he was also a hero to England too".
