Historic medals

25 Sep. 2017.

In the latest of our series - and together with the help of the Hungarian version of FourFourTwo magazine - we cast our eyes over some historic sporting memorabilia, again from the English National Football Museum's collection. This time it's the turn of medals to take our attention.

For years now, FourFourTwo magazine has successfully published articles on museum collections in the 'Then in the past' section of its global edition, as part of which there is a serial entitled 'Archive' which introduces special items related to the history of football. That means that the it's not only the Puskás Institute collection that we can showcase to our readers, but also that of the National Football Museum which is one of the Puskás Institute's technical partners. It is from this collection housed in Manchester that most of these medals come. Here is a taste of the medals highlighted in our latest feature:

Ferenc Puskás' 1952 Olympic gold medal

A Lancashire Combination League medal won by a Preston player in 1896

A Blackpool Hospital Cup runners-up medal from the 1920s

An FA Cup gold medal won by a Manchester City player in 1934

Gyula Lóránt's Central European Cup gold medal won with Hungary in 1953

A European Champions' Club Cup gold medal from 1960

A 1966 FIFA World Cup gold medal won by an England player in 1966

A Women's FA Cup gold medal won by a Stoke player in 1922
