FIFA Puskás Award

James Rodríguez

Real Madrid's Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez won the 2014 Puskás Award.

The sixth Puskás Award was awarded to Colombian James Rodriguez in recognition of him scoring the best goal of the year. The Real Madrid midfielder received the prize for his goal for Colombia during last summer's FIFA World Cup second round match against Uruguay in Brazil on June 28th 2014. James, as he is commonly known, chested the ball down with his back to goal, turned and volleyed an unstoppable effort from 25 metres into the top, left-hand corner of the net.

James, who signed for Real Madrid CF after the World Cup in Brazil, polled 42% of the vote, 9% ahead of Irishwoman Stephanie Roche with a splendid 33% and Dutch striker Robin van Persie in third position having garnered 11% of the vote for his spectacular header against Spain in the same World Cup. This year's Puskás Award was presented by Christian Karembeu who won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship two years later with France.
