Brazilian wonderkid Neymar won the third edition of the Puskás award and received his trophy at the FIFA Gala in Zurich from Mexican Hugo Sanchez, himself a five-time top goalscorer in a Spanish domestic season. The teenage star who has been féted by Pelé scored a sensational goal against Flamengo on 27th July 2011, slaloming his way through the entire opposition defence from near the halfway line and pulling off an amazing trick before slotting the ball into the goal.
"I was almost in shock when it became apparent I had won the prize. I am very happy and satisfied that I won and I remain grateful to my teammates that I have this superb year behind me. I thank God, my family, my friends and the people who have helped me so much. I believe this goal I scored was the most beautiful. I received the ball on the left wing and tricked my way past two players before playing a superb one-two with my teammate, after which I beat two more defenders and scored the goal. It was almost perfect." said Neymar, whose life's dream would come true if he could play in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
